Lifewit Can Opener & Garlic Press Review

I have been slowly trying to upgrade my kitchen accessories. Most of mine are 10+ years old and some are even from when I moved out at 18! I tend to keep my kitchen gadgets until they can no longer function. I was in desperate need of a new can opener and due to almost cutting my finger off by smashing the garlic with a knife, I decided it would be best for me to get a garlic press. This garlic press means business! It is heavy duty and has a basket big enough to hold two cloves. The basket is attached, but swings out for easy cleaning. It has done a fabulous job! As if that didn’t make the garlic job easy enough, there is a garlic peeler! It is a rubber sleeve that you just put the clove in and roll it back and forth and viola!, no skin! How cool is that?  The can opener isn’t playing any games either! It is quite unique and I have not personally ever used one like it. It took me a minute to figure out how to use the can opener and even as I was turning it, I wasn’t completely convinced that it was cutting. As soon as I made it all the way around, though, the top popped right off. Oh, and the edges were smooth so there was no cutting myself on them. They also include a brush for easy cleaning that was super helpful. I have no doubt that I will have this for many years to come because they are well made and made of stainless steel. This would make an excellent gift! If you want to check it out, I have included the link below.

Brandobay Stainless Steel Multi-Grater with Snap-On Catch Tray

Believe it or not, I have been using the same grater for years. And years, and years. I was born in the 80’s and I would not be surprised if the grater was as well. If not that early, then definitely the 90’s. It had a place you put the food and then cranked it to grate it. I have wanted a new one for awhile, but I didn’t ever think about it until I was pulling out the old one. Grating some fresh Ginger was the last straw. I am glad to say it is now in the donate box. Yay! I felt so pampered and privileged when I first used this grater! I like that it is layed down and that makes controlling the food that is being grated super easy. The blades are very sharp and it took very little effort to grate some Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, which to me, is on the tougher side of cheese to grate. Making this little darling more appealing is the catch tray underneath. This grater was definitely worth all the time I used that old one. If you would like to check it out, the link is below.

Brandobay Silicone Baking Utensil Set Review

On my newly started quest to incorporate bright colors into my kitchen, I ran across this lovely set. The bright blue jumped out at me and that was a color that I did not have yet. I was extremely pleased when I opened them up and they were sturdy. I have been disappointed before by kitchen accessories being flimsy and these were definitely not. I love that the handles are not thin and bendy. They have the rounded clear handles that are very easy to grip and are comfortable. I have had the pleasure to use all three of these in the last week and I think the brush is my favorite! I have only used a round basting brush and I think I have been swayed to this shape. The other two pieces are just as great, I am just crazy about this brush! If you would like to check these out, I have included the link below.

Today was Apple Fritter Day

Simply Divine!

Reflections of a Southern Gal

I have been back in the kitchen today making something different with my apples.  I decided to make apple fritters.  I love apple fritters on a cool morning with a cup of hot chocolate.  I am not a coffee drinker, although my husband can’t function without it.  Just give me a cup of hot tea or chocolate and I am all set.
This was my first attempt at making apple fritters so I looked up some recipes.  I am a simple baker and cook and I like recipes with few ingredients.  I saw so many recipes that had tons of ingredients and I just decided to wing it on my own and see what happened.  I didn’t do too bad, although I think with practice they may look a little more formed and presentable.  I told my husband that I needed more practice and he said, “Yes,  and I will…

Crowd Pleasing Candy Pretzels

A little over a year ago, I was surfing Pinterest for food ideas for my son’s 1st birthday and I ran across some awesome candy dipped pretzels. They seemed simple enough so I started looking for those large, jumbo, long pretzels. Nobody in my town carried them. Then, the day before the birthday I was in Dollar Tree and lo and behold, they had them! They turned out great and I had multiple requests afterwards to make them. So this year for his 2nd birthday, I decided to do them again. I strolled into the Dollar Tree (2 days before the party) and to my horror, they no longer carried the pretzels that I had only been able to find there. I almost panicked but then I saw some Snyder’s Old Tyme Pretzels. Knowing I was cutting it close, I grabbed four bags (I ended up getting 4 more) and decided to take my chances. My experience with The Dollar Tree Pretzels is to buy twice the amount I intend on using because only half the bag is unbroken. So, I got home and and got started. I used the Kroger brand vanilla candy coating and it was awesome! The instructions say you can heat the candy in a saucepan on the stove or nuke it in the microwave.I found out that even with being careful, I burned some of it. I was pushing it with the time, but decided that I needed a double boiler instead of melting the candy those ways. I went to Walmart, and guess what. There were none to be found. So, I raced home and came up with my own plan. As you can see in the 2nd picture, I used two nonstick pans that fir perfectly (thank God!). I put some water in the bottom pan and viola, a double boiler! It worked like a charm! The rest was super easy. I took each pretzel and dipped it in the candy coating and laid them on a cookie sheet with wax paper. I immediately put some colorful sprinkles on them and put them aside to harden, which took no time at all. They were an even bigger hit than the pretzel sticks and much easier to make. I you want a snack that everyone loves and is super easy to do, look no further. When you go looking for your bags of pretzels, check out your local Dollar Tree first because even with half broken, it comes out way cheaper. If you decide to make these or are already in the process of making them and have any questions, I’ll do my best to help! Enjoy:))

Brandobay Jumbo Plastic Clips Review

They were not kidding when they said jumbo! These are the biggest clips I have ever seen, but that is what I am looking for. I have been using my regular kitchen clips on my big bags of sugar and cat food, but it takes two of them and they are not strong enough to hold them good and closed. Even though these have a super strong grip, they are easy to press open. They seem very strong and sturdy, so I expect them to last awhile. I put one each on the sugar and cat food and it works exactly how I need it to. They are long and stick up though, so they probably couldn’t be used in small places, but these clips aren’t made for small jobs! I have a feeling they won’t just be used in the kitchen either. These could be used anywhere a big clip is needed. If you would like to check them out, I have included the link below:)
